11 Questions Meme

I was tagged by Mitsu, so I figured why not? It's always fun to learn new things about people.

11 Questions rules:
1. Each person must post eleven things about themselves on their blog.
2. Answer the questions the tagger has set for you plus, create eleven questions for the people you tag to answer.
3. Choose eleven people and link them in your post.
4. Go to their page and tell them.
5. No tag backs
6. You legitimately have to tag

11 Things about me:

- I can never be serious for long, somehow my mind will think of the most random funny crap at the wrong moment and I wind up giggling inappropriately.

- I think my legs are the best features of my body, but I still have issues with my thighs
- I don't have a favourite singer or food. I like things on an individual basis, so I don't chase after bands or singers, never have.

Mad About Franc Franc

I have a confession to make, I love walking through lifestyle stores! I adore waltzing through glassware and cutlery sections, bouncing about on sample matresses, sniffing potpurri, imagining how I'll furnish and decorate my future home and all other fun things one does in lifestyles stores. That's why when I interned at Ikea during my polytechnic days, it was a total dream come true! I was mostly being paid to play around with the products I already love!

So when I found myself accidentally at the Franc Franc store at JCube mall, I was immediately entranced by everything they had! I wanted to simply buy everything I could lay my hands on! Franc Franc is a Japanese lifestyle store and the easiest way to explain it is, it's basically the fancy version of Ikea. Everything is useful but with a decorative edge to it that's influenced very much by vintage style designs.

The Bf bought this lovely mirror for me, it's my very first Franc Franc product! I love it because it's super useful, especially for cosplay purposes, as it functions not only as a large hand mirror....

But the handle can be folded down to make it a standing mirror too! Decorative & useful, what more can a girl ask for!

The fancy 3D detailing on the back of the mirror, I know it's bit hard to see but it's really really nice.

I had been looking for a case for my new Iphone and nothing seemed to fit, somehow everything was either too tacky or too plain in my mind. However, at Franc Franc did I finally find the case that suited the style I had in mind:

The new case for my Iphone

Really, really love the vintage style print and the soft rubbery texture

I know this post is starting to sound like an advertorial for Franc Franc, but trust me, I'm simply a crazy fan of the brand who's gushing her love for everything in the store. I love the useful but decorative appeal of the products and how it can make boring office staples such as dividers and file holders look so much nicer by simply having a fancy print on them.

I also found out that Franc Franc will be opening a massive outlet (it's biggest outlet in the world to be exact) at Vivocity in June. I can't wait to go and explore the shop when it's finally open, though I'd probably have to force myself to not buy anything simply because it looks pretty...

Personal Outfits (Date & Friend)

Had my ramen fix and watched Dark Shadows during a date with the bf late last week. It was the first time I got to dress up and apply makeup after nearly a week and a half, so it was definitely nice.

Yummy ramen though the soup was a tad heavy

 Me enjoying my ramen

 Outfit:
Top: Snidel
Shorts & belt: Spiral Girl
Shoes: Itti & Otto
Bag: Vintage Collins of Texas wooden "Bird Brain" bag
Spectacles: Taobao

I also met up again with Jo. This'll probably be the last meeting we have till either one of us flies to each other's respective countries, so we did alot of gossiping and bitching and stuff. It wasn't all bimbotic, we did talk about the global financial rates and stuff though I have to admit my knowledge in finance isn't exactly that great haha.

Simple outfit:
Inner camisole: Giordano
Loose knit top: Giordano
Denim shorts: DIY
Owl necklace: borrowed from mom
Shoes: Rockport

My outfits may also get a tad boring the next 2+ months as I'm following the Buddhist mourning period of 49 days (my grandpa's a Taoist but requested to have Buddhist rites done at his funeral), so I'm forbidden to wear anything with gold, red, orange, purple colours as they're symbolically considered as "happy" colours. Even a shirt with those colours printed on the design is considered inappropriate, so my colour palette is rather restricted right now.

I'm not a Buddhist, but it's something I'm doing out of respect and love for my grandpa and his religion. I am already trying to bend the rules by adding like the colour, blue, to my clothes and using silver and pewter jewellry instead. Well, I'm using the "rules" as a way to test my creativity with my available wardrobe and it's given me the opportunity to rifle through my mom's extensive collection of vintage pins and jewellry.

Sorry my brain's abit fried from starting up my own tumblr account and trying to get everything figured out. It's gonna be the area where I unleash my inner geek/fangirl so there'll be less makeup or fashion-y stuff over there. I'm also not following that many people yet so my posts are a tad repetitive and boring, however if you're interested, here's the link.

Till next time...

Girl's Day In

After a really stressful and tiring week, my dear friend Jo suggested a girl's day to relieve the stress and get my mind off everything. We painted our nails, gossiped and bitched, watched Bridget Jones's Diary, did facial stuffs and in the evening, popped over to Ikea for their awesome meatballs and to get ideas for Jo's potential new home back in Indonesia.

Daiso's Blackhead removing mask (review coming soon!) after we painted our nails

Facial masks after peeling off the other mask, I joked that we looked like masked murderers

Our dinner, I'm so glad we decided to share our meal because I was feeling incredibly greedy that evening.

It was a day that my heart and mind truly needed. It's helped me with my stress levels as I come to terms with my grief, though I realise I'm not totally sane still as I randomly bought this heavy key chain thingy for my phone at a sale:

It is actually pretty cute and it connects to my iphone by simply plugging it into the earphone jack, but it's insanely heavy thus causing my phone to hang heavily on the end it's attached to. Not to mention, it cost me freaking $28!!! Why I bought it I'll never know, I was looking at some much smaller and cheaper dangling stuffs, decided to get one, then saw fancier designs on those dinky revolving stands, spun it around, chanced upon this and just in a split second, decided to buy this instead. I know I've lost a few of my marbles after this happened as it's totally not my usual shopping style plus I'm actually quite broke at the moment, so for me to spend that amount of money on something so stupid clearly shows my stress levels.

Okay, I've digressed from the original topic so I'll stop now. My head's still abit far off but I'll be back with more posts soon!

Life Goes On.....

Death is nothing at all.
I have only slipped away to the next room.
I am I and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other,
That, we still are.

Call me by my old familiar name.
Speak to me in the easy way
which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed
at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me. Pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word
that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effect.
Without the trace of a shadow on it.

Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same that it ever was.
There is absolute unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind
because I am out of sight?

I am but waiting for you.
For an interval.
Somewhere. Very near.
Just around the corner.

All is well.

Funeral Death Poem by Henry Scott Holland ~ 1847-1918
Canon of St. Paul's Cathedral ~ London. UK

My maternal grandfather slipped away on Wednesday evening surrounded by his family. In my heart of hearts, I knew it was coming but it still doesn't ease the grief and pain I have currently embedded in my heart. My comfort is that he's finally reunited with my grandmother and that he isn't suffering anymore...

It's strange, I don't cry in front of my family regarding this matter, but here I am, tears blurring my vision as I attempt to type this lame excuse of a blog post explaining my circumstances. Perhaps, I'm saying things that ought to be private but I just need to let it out in some way. I guess as the eldest grandchild and with my mom's random and constant bursts of tears, I have to stay strong even if my smiles are fake and I chatter away like nothing is wrong....

I've been through worse things.... I can get through this.....

(I have a couple of scheduled posts coming soon... but I probably need some time to just be alone... or maybe I don't and I'll be back next week writing about the most mundane and bimbotic things again, I don't know.... whatever it is... I'll be back.. I just don't know when....)

Diamond Crevasse (May'n) from Macross Frontier
Humming this song silently in my head has been strangely comforting during the whole process thus far, perhaps because the lyrics resonates what I'm feeling at the moment.

Personal Outfit (Pigging Out)

Met up with the Bf after his work one ay for a major pigging out session at Chili's. My sis used to work there and she constantly raved about the awesome food and considering what a picky eater she is, for her to rave about food meant it was a must-try destination.

Due to the dinner crowd, we winded up seating at the bar instead of a proper table, but we had alot more fun that way. We ended up chatting with this really funny bartender who kept giving us little shots of random drinks he made, there were huge screens at the bar playing repeats of hockey matches and we were also seated away from the hustle and bustle of the dinner crowd. Couldn't have asked for a better seat that evening.

The Bf got a margerita, though what flavour it is exactly, I can't remember. I do remember Blue Curacao (is that how you spell it?) was added for that blue colour.

 My yummy Mojito

The best Nachos I've ever had! Such cheesy, meaty goodness on a crispy nacho chip!

We shared BBQ ribs with sides of corn on the cob & garlic toast, and a pulled pork burger. I only wish they had slathered on more BBQ sauce on the ribs, but the burger was incredibly good.

Molten chocolate cake (Chili's signature dessert), we were so full by then that we were forcing each other to finish the cake. It was good though, really sticky and spongy...

The bartender gave us a free glass of chocolate milkshake, it was good, but combining this and the chocolate cake was really too much sugar in one night... we were bouncing off the walls later that evening.

I wore my new Spiral Girl high-waisted shorts. I hate taking pictures of me wearing them, I look fine in real life but somehow in pictures, I just look stumpy and fat... grrr... though they are incredibly comfortable.
Top: One Spo
Shorts & belt: Spiral Girl

Simple makeup for the evening, hehe notice my furry Dusky lying in the corner of the picture?

I've lately been trying my best to stick to a workout regime and a healthier diet, which is a incredible feat considering how darn ass lazy I can be and how much I love my food. So this meal kindda broke my diet but I did try to reduce the guilty feelings by pushing myself to workout abit more that night haha.

My new semester is starting this week, so posts may slow down once again, however I promise to update whenever I can!

Makeup Review: Majolica Majorca Blood On Lip & Cheek Tint

Majolica Majorca has a real knack for tempting you to buy their products with their lovely packaging and this lovely cheek and lip tint was no different. I had initially attempted to convince myself to not purchase this tint but of course, I failed in doing so as the cute packaging and texture of the product won me over. Not to mention, having a product named Blood On does pique one's curiosity quite abit!

I later found out that the product was named Flesh & Blood in Japan but I guess it sounds alittle too gory so it was probably renamed Blood On to sound alittle more palatable and less like a bad zombie movie.

The lovely tint in its packaging, its adorable how they included the card like design on the back.

The tint itself, looking at how red it is does probably scare people away thinking it'll be a rather strong colour, however the resulting colour is anything but strong.

My face after applying concealer and powder foundation and lip balm

This is after applying the cheek and lip tint to my own cheeks and lips. As you can see, the colour is rather natural and flushed, kindda like how one's cheeks and lips will look like after coming back from the cold or a jog.

This is how it looks like after I've applied a touch of Candydoll's pink blush on top & alittle more lipgloss, its quite natural as you can see (pardon the messy wardrobe behind me)

The tint is alittle disappointing in my opinion as it is advertised as a stain, however the colour doesn't stain in any manner (except maybe on clothes, I haven't really tried that) and it does fade off after a few hours. Also, since I already have my Canmake cream blush and Anna Sui lip stain, I naturally compared to them both and it fell short.

As a blush, it does produce a natural, flushed look, however the sticky gel-like texture remains sticky after application unlike the Canmake cream blush that becomes powdery after application. So I do recommend a light dusting of loose powder unless the really natural, barely done look is what you're after. The colour also doesn't show up as well on camera so if I should ever use it for photography purposes, I'd probably have to pile it on just to look right on camera. The tint is also devoid of glitters so if you're not a fan of glittery blush, this might just be the product for you. Applying the blush also requires abit of tugging on the skin around my cheeks to spread the product evenly, so it's definitely not something I wanna continue using in the long run to avoid the risk of early wrinkles.

As a lip stain, the colour is again a pretty natural pink look that is reminiscent of those baby pink lips that you see on models. However the colour comes off the moment I eat or drink anything, and again it fails to show up well on camera. However, the good things about it is that it is relatively tasteless and odour-less as compared to my Anna Sui lip stain which has its signature rose smell. So people who abhor scented products will love it very much. The product is also pretty mositurizing on my lips so no worries about having dry, cracked lips from this product unlike other lip stains.

In summary:

Colour Intensity: 6/10 (Lovely natural colour which is especially good for a natural, barely done look but not enough for heavier, more intense makeup styles. Personally I like to layer my Candydoll blush over for added intensity.)

Texture: Sticky and gel-like (it will remain sticky after use so I recommend a light dusting of loose powder, but its up to your personal preference)

Barely shows up on camera so not suitable for heavier makeup styles or photography purposes

Price: 7/10 (At SGD$17.50 I can't complain too much about the price as it is a decent product)

Overall: 7/10 (it fails to live up to my expectations which maybe skewed from the comparisons I made to my Canmake cream blush & Anna Sui lip stain, however it is a decent product that does as described. Just remember that its more suited for the natural look and that it requires touch ups if you plan to wear it all day. It is however, a very useful product for travelling and for quick fixes)

I don't hate the product but I don't love it with all my heart either, I probably wouldn't purchase it again only simply because I have other products that do a better job that it. However, this will definitely be in my makeup bag should I travel out of the country as it is a fantastic double use product in a slim container that doesn't take up much space. So I really recommend it for people who want greater mileage out of their products, or if you're a fan of the barely made up look and if you constantly travel.

Personal Outfit (Shopping & Ramen)

I finally got my ramen fix once again at Ramen Champion. If you haven't been there, you're seriously missing out on some awesome ramen selections! My personal favourite is from the Bario shop, however I decided to get something else instead:

Ordered from Ikkousha's stall instead. The broth was so lovely & salty with thin, straight ramen & the black fungus for added bite & crunch. My only gripe were the ultra thin cha shu, it just wasn't enough to satisfy my meat craving. Oh goodness, I'm starting to crave ramen again whenever I look at this picture...

I decided to dress up though I knew full well that my friends probably weren't gonna be bothered to dress up much, but hey, dressing up to feel good is always a positive boost and I like dressing up for myself too anyway. I haven't worn gyaru style in quite awhile so after the hair and makeup I really felt over-dressed and became crazily paranoid and took to ranting about it on my Twitter, but now that I think about it, it certainly felt good to dress all out after so long and I certainly over-reacted thanks to my paranoid mind.

 Outfit consisted of:
Inner Tube: Borrowed from Mom
Dress: Glad News
Cardigan: Mu
Stockings: I've forgotten..

I love how the long cardigan made my body look longer and hence, thinner :)

I styled my hair to a roughly done, half-up, half-down style though the searing heat and humidity killed my hairstyle after awhile

It was a fun day catching up with my friends and sharing lots of stories and laughter over lovely food. I also managed to get some stuff done such as getting my mom's birthday present and a screen protector for my new Iphone, though I didn't manage to get a case as none of the cases I could find suited my style. Hopefully, I'll be able to get a case with a design I like soon, I wouldn't wanna get my phone all scratched up and dirty knowing how clumsy I can be.
